🧠💪 About Kevin Farrell
Founder | Master Trainer | Integrated Physical & Mental Performance Coach
Creator of the Mental Bullpen Performance Regulation Framework
Kevin Farrell is the founder of Mental Bullpen, an evidence-based mental performance and mental health education platform built to support athletes, coaches, and parents as an integrated performance system.
Mental Bullpen was created to address a critical gap in sport and high-performance environments:
people are taught what to do, but rarely taught why performance breaks down under pressure — or how the behaviour of coaches, parents, and environments directly influences an athlete’s ability to regulate stress and perform.
With over 25 years of experience across competitive sport, public safety, tactical instruction, and resilience training, Kevin brings rare, cross-domain expertise to performance coaching. His work focuses on helping individuals and systems understand stress, regulate effectively, and perform consistently under pressure.
🧭 A System, Not a Silo: The Mental Bullpen Approach
At the core of Kevin’s work is the belief that performance does not exist in isolation.
Athletes do not fail alone.
Performance is shaped by:
Mental Bullpen trains the entire support system — athletes, coaches, and parents — using a shared language and framework so performance, mental health, and development are aligned instead of working against each other.
This system-based approach is what separates Mental Bullpen from traditional motivational speaking or one-off mental skills sessions.
⚾ A Coach Forged in the Game
Kevin began coaching baseball in the early 1990s, developing athletes who competed at Provincial, Atlantic, and National Championship levels. A lifelong catcher trained under Tony Flood, he developed a deep respect for the mental, physical, and leadership demands of the position.
Catching shaped Kevin’s coaching philosophy:
These principles became the foundation of his athlete development work — building complete performers, not just skilled players.
Over decades of coaching, Kevin became known for developing athletes who were not only technically prepared, but mentally resilient, accountable, and composed in adversity.
🏋️ High-Performance Strength & International Coaching
Kevin’s performance background extends beyond the field. He has served twice as a National Team Powerlifting Coach, representing Canada on the international stage.
Through this work, he developed advanced expertise in:
His athletes consistently describe him as a coach who understands both the body and the mind — equally capable of programming physical performance and guiding athletes through high-stakes competitive stress.
🔥 Tactical Instruction & Public Safety Performance
For more than a decade, Kevin worked directly with Newfoundland and Labrador Corrections, delivering large-scale training to every staff member in the province.
His instructional roles included:
This experience sharpened Kevin’s understanding of operational stress, composure under threat, and the consequences of poor regulation — lessons that directly translate to sport and coaching environments.
🧠 Mental Health, Resilience & R2MR Leadership
Kevin is a Master Trainer for Road to Mental Readiness (R2MR) — Canada’s gold-standard mental health and resilience program used by the Canadian Armed Forces, public safety organizations, and first responders nationwide.
As one of a limited number of Master-Level trainers, Kevin has delivered resilience and performance education to:
His instruction helps individuals understand how thoughts, physiology, stress responses, and behaviour interact, and how skills like controlled breathing, visualization, attentional control, and self-talk directly impact performance and recovery.
Kevin is also certified in:
This allows him to bridge research-backed psychology with practical, field-tested performance tools.
👨👩👧 Supporting the Whole Performance Environment
A defining feature of Kevin’s work is his commitment to educating parents and support systems, not just athletes.
Through Mental Bullpen, Kevin teaches parents:
This support-system lens ensures athletes are not receiving mixed messages — one language in training, another at home.
🧠 The Mental Bullpen Philosophy
“Performance doesn’t start in the gym or on the field — it starts in the mind.
Physical training builds capacity. Mental training unlocks it.”
Mental Bullpen exists to teach what most systems overlook:
Kevin’s work blends science, experience, discipline, and empathy, creating performers and leaders who are regulated, confident, and prepared — not just skilled.
This is not opinion.
This is not motivation.
This is evidence-based performance regulation, built for the real world of sport and high-pressure environments.
